prince(ss) ≈ pauper
PAUPER: Chuck works as a waiter in Paris and dresses like a normal guy of his age. He lives with the money he earns by working. (4.02)Blair meets Prince Louis and she’s excited she’s going out with a real prince that PRINCESS: may also make her a princess for a day. (4.02)PRINCE: Chuck gives bad water to Father Cavalia in order to stop him from ruining Blair’s wedding. (5.13)PRINCESS: Blair finally becomes a princess. - Look how the scene is similiar to the one from 4.02 where she is in front of the mirror. (5.13)
In both of those episodes, we have Serena going to Chuck not to make him leave because he doesn’t want to face his true self (4.02) as his wealthy self with his baggage, he’s practically becoming a pauper to run from his old life, while in 5.13 Serena addresses Blair that she is marrying Louis because she isn’t ready to live her real life and face the risks. She is becoming a princess to run from a serious and risky life. “Just because you’re dressed poorly, doesn’t mean you are not Chuck Bass.” (4.02)“I know that it scares you and I know that it’s a risk, but don’t enter into a false life just because you’re scared to face the real one.” (5.13)PRINCESS & PAUPER: A beautiful Blair in a red gown is in front of a poorly dressed Chuck. (4.02) While in 5.14 Chuck is dressed as his usual elegant way versus Blair in a common leggins, ballerinas and souvenir tee. Getting out of her wedding gown and change into normal, usual clothes made Blair methaporically a pauper. Basically knowing and being engaged to Louis made her Princess but marrying him actually made her pauper. Louis’ mom also asks her if she wants to live the rest of her life as a Princess or a Pauper because of the dowry she had to pay if she wanted to divorce Louis.
HOW WILL THIS STORY END? Chuck at the end of 4.02 is conscient of who he is and tries to be Chuck Bass but also tries to live differently and trying to become better - turning back into a Dark Knight until he decided he needed help in 5.05 where his redemption, his “Prince” phase started. Blair is currently a Pauper. Dating Dat is a proof, he was addressed Pauper last year. This means that she’s not acting as Blair. She seems confused, stressed by the fail marriage with Louis and many other things. Being a “pauper” is easy compared to being a “princess”. She’s feeling it on her shoulders right now. To get back to the Blair we once knew, she needs to find a balance between her Princess/Pauper/Dark Knight part, because yes, she is also a “Dark” Knight. As much as Chuck, they are layered and have developed all those layers through the years. We’ll have Blair back when she’ll understand where her heart truly lies… and she has yet to choose a true Prince/Dark Knight which is Chuck right now, so there is hope for the finale.

“Blair: “Sorry I assumed you sent that video, even though you clearly did not.”
Chuck: “It’s okay. So how about I pay off this dowry right now?”
Blair: “No, Chuck. That can never happen.”
Chuck: “But I’ve got loads of money and your mother will go to the poorhouse.”
Blair: “Don’t you see? It’s just like that time you didn’t sell me for a hotel.”
Chuck: “Okay but seriously. It’s like, If your banked fucked up and your card got declined, you’d let me get dinner, right? That wouldn’t be prostitution? This is just like that. Me helping you out of a jam with my infinite funds.”
Blair: “No, because I still want to be with you. And this way, I could. And that, obviously, cannot happen.”
